The International Badminton Association for the Disabled (IBAD) established in 1995, is responsible for promoting and developing the sport for people with a disability.
IBAD has 28 national associations (as at April 2007) as its members. The development of badminton for people with a disability is supported by the BWF, its member associations together with the BWF Continental Confederations.
Badminton for people with a disability is particularly strong in Europe and Asia. Competitions are governed by the Laws of Badminton, Appendix 5 of the BWF Statutes.
The BWF and IBAD have made an application to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to have badminton included in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
IBAD Mission Statement
