Badminton is an Olympic Games sport and made its debut at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Badminton has also been part of the Commonwealth Games sports program since 1966.

The BWF encourages the inclusion of badminton in other multi-sport events. The BWF associates itself with a number of multi sport events and organisers in order to promote badminton throughout the world.

Badminton is also a sport played widely by people with a disability. The International Badminton Association for the Disabled (IBAD) is governed by the general rules set down by the BWF. The BWF and IBAD have made an application to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to have badminton included in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The following are the many organizations which the BWF works together with to promote badminton through major events in various regions and internationally to enhance its status as an Olympic sport and a sport which is accessible to all.
