Badminton has been part of the Olympic Games since Barcelona 1992. The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is an opportunity to showcase badminton in a country where the sport is extremely popular.

172 badminton players (86 men and 86 women) from more than 45 countries will be selected to compete in Beijing from 8 – 24 August 2008.

Athens 2004 Olympic Games

The Games of the XXVIII Olympiad were hosted in Athens 2008 from 13 – 29 August 2004. The Badminton Competition was from 14 – 22 August and there were 172 competitors (86 men, 86 women) in the five events – Men’s Singles (29 players), Women’s Singles (29 players), Men’s doubles (19 pairs), Women’s doubles (19 pairs), Mixed doubles (19 pairs).

More than 74 million viewers in China tuned in to watch the badminton mixed doubles final for Athens 2004, making it the ninth most watched sporting event of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games in China and the third most watched event in key urban areas such as Beijing
