The BWF Constitution describes the governance and management structure of the BWF. The following provides a summary of the key bodies within the governance structure:

BWF Members 164 National Badminton Federations / Associations The ultimate authority for the Federation. Approves the annual report and budget and confirms the strategic direction of the Federation as presented by the BWF Council.

Council

25 Members – Officers (the President, Deputy President, 6 Vice Presidents) , 17 other members and Honorary Officers if appointed-Honorary Legal Advisor, Honarary Medical Officer and Honarary Financial Advisor. Carry on the work of the Federation between AGMs. Provides policy and administrative guidance to the Executive Board.

Executive Board

12 members – Officers (President, Deputy President, 6 Vice Presidents) and nominated Chairs of Committees. Oversee the day to day operations of the BWF between Council meetings. Acts as the Coordination Committee for the Council.

  3. Commercial
  4. Development
  5. Sport
Develop and amend policies / procedures in each of the key results areas the Committees are primarily responsible for.

Commissions

Specialist working groups made up of experts in their field Review current practice and regulations, develop procedures and provide advice to Council Committees.

Council Committees / Commissions

Council Committees and Commissions perform important roles in developing policy and procedures for consideration by council. This includes any changes to the Laws of Badminton. The  Committees are made up of Council members, however the Commissions have external expertise to provide

Staffing Structure

The Secretary General is primarily responsible for the day to day administration and management of the BWF. The management structure consists of four departments. These are:

  1. Commercial Department
  2. Sport Department
  3. Development Department
  4. Finance and Administration
